SLC Oven Grease Removal: Paste and Soap Application

In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of the reasons why it’s important to regularly clean your oven and stovetop area, plus some initial steps for doing so. Grease is a significant risk in these areas if it’s not properly removed, possibly leading to everything from annoyance to health concerns, but there are some very simple ways to avoid these risks with just a few periodic approaches.

At All Pro Appliance Service, we’re happy to provide appliance repair services for any appliance you own in Salt Lake City, including oven repairs for any need. In our oven repair programs, we often find that lack of grease removal is a key culprit in disrepair issues for many ovens, ranges and stovetop areas – with this in mind, let’s pick up where we left off in part one of our series and discuss how to finalize the cleaning of your oven (a process we’re happy to help with, if needed).

Spot Treating With Baking Soda Paste

We left off in part one with the formulation and application of a baking soda solution, one that involves one part baking soda and three parts warm water. Once you’ve got this mixed up, the first step is to begin spot-treating specific areas that need more attention.

This is best done by mixing a thicker paste – simply add a bit more baking soda until the solution reaches the preferred consistency. We recommend using a soft-bristle brush or cloth to apply this paste to areas in need, and then letting it rest for 15 minutes before cleaning it away with either warm water or a damp cloth.

Degreaser Soap

Once you’ve fully spot-treated your oven or stovetop area, the next step is to use a degreaser soap solution. This involves combining a quarter cup of dish detergent with two cups of warm water in a spray bottle – you’ll want to shake it up vigorously until it’s fully mixed.

The goal here is to saturate the entire surface that needs to be cleaned, and then allowing it to rest for 20 minutes before wiping away with a damp cloth or rag. Be sure not to use abrasive cleaning tools on your oven or stovetop surface, as this can cause scratches and other disrepair issues.

If Needed: Stronger Degreasing Products

In some cases, the process we’ve described here may not quite do the trick – if you feel your oven or stovetop area needs a bit more cleaning power, there are some strong chemical-based degreasing products available. Be sure to follow the instructions provided with any product closely, as different brands may require slightly different applications and precautions.

Finally, don’t forget to take preventative measures in the future as well – once your cleaning is done, make sure you take steps to avoid grease buildup by using a non-stick oven liner on the bottom rack and wiping up spills as soon as possible.

At All Pro Appliance Service, we’re here to help with any kind of appliance repair need for Salt Lake City area customers. If you’re having any kind of problem with your oven or stovetop, don’t hesitate to reach out – we’ll be happy to diagnose and repair any issue. Thanks for reading!
